Recognized as one of the main techno pioneers and influential artists of the recent time, Shlomi has the kind of impact usually reserved for inbound meteors, the reason for which is buried in a ground swell of genre-defying appreciation and support. a comment taken from a recent “Radio 1” interview provides a probable insight as to why his productions are hitting such a broad mark, “No matter if it’s hard or soft, it just needs to touch your mind, body and soul at the same time. That’s what I call a ‘Good Record’.” This personal approach, married with 12 years production experience that takes influence from jazz, funk, minimal, acid and, in particular the old school Detroit techno movement. Aber has created some of the most recognizable and unique techno of modern times. Means he boasts some of the world’s most prestigious labels on his ever-expanding CV: Cocoon, Ovum, R&S and Renaissance to name but a few. Tracks such as Sea Of Sand, After Love and Tel Aviv Garden have become engraved on Top 10 bestseller lists all over, whilst his release “Crop Duster” has already been described by every aspects as ‘…a classy piece of Underground fodder…,’ not to mention his worldwide funky techno anthem with Ovum Recordings, “Freakside,” which became his trademark as ” the biggest club track of 2007 ” The accolades from the press don’t end there either; his sets have also been cited for their unique ability to cohesively traverse genres; DJmag positively wrote in a profile article, ‘Shlomi’s sets are full with warm and unique sounds that makes you feel like you are going back to the better days of music, it was something I can’t define just by one word, if I must I will call it something between house and techno. With his fascinating technical skills, accurate programming and music selection, you can just feel the magic in the air.’ Quite a statement. Growing from the classic Tel Aviv “90’s underground dance scene”, shlomi rise through the DJ ranks of his native environment is the house fairytale in its purest form, beginning with throwing regular parties for his mates in his parents’ garage when he was just 14!, support soon developed and he was able to take on bigger underground venues and increase his local profile to massive events such as the Love Parade, Gay Parade, Dance & Levis and many others. Back to these days, Shlomi was selected as Beatport’s artists of the year for 2008 and also received a respected “Worldwide DJ Awards” nomination, placing Shlomi in the first tier of electronic music artists, Headlining every prestigious club, festival or venue worldwide. 2006 saw Shlomi launch his own imprint, bookings, and artist management agency. This heralded the birth of one of the most established and top leading labels of the underground dance music scene, “Be As One Imprint.” The label, with its broad range of quality underground house and techno, has become a firm favorite with the world’s elite, , with the only constant being that “a track must have the right feeling and stand out in its own way.”

When looking for a place that plays electronic music in Leipzig, at the top of the list you will find the Distillery, the most renowned club in Eastern Germany. For Matthias Tanzmann the Distillery has special importance, as since 1997 he has been resident DJ there, providing the soundtrack for Leipzig nightlife for more than a decade.

From the beginning Matthias’s musical output has revolved around more than just functional club music, regardless of whether it’s on the turntables or in the studio. Combining subtle arrangements that ride the deep vibes that lie between House and Techno, yet never forgetting the drive for the dance floor – that is what Matthias Tanzmann’s music is about.

Together with Daniel Scholz he founded Gamat 3000 at the end of the 90’s. With releases on Dessous Recordings, Freude am Tanzen and FM Musik they quickly made a name for themselves in the German House scene. The duo even landed one of the club hits of the summer of ‘99, with the track ‘Feeling Love’.

At a millennium New Year’s Eve party, Matthias and Andrè Quaas (then part owner of the Distillery) decided to start a new label which would offer a premium platform for Leipzig House protagonists and for befriended international producers. With the release of the Gamat 3000 – ”Radio Moon” EP, the Moon Harbour label started along with the new millennium and received extremely positive feedback from the press and clubs alike. Matthias took over as A&R and Andrè now manages the entire administration of the label.

In 2000 Matthias made his debut as a solo artist with “Rose Garden”. In parallel to the success of Moon Harbour and Gamat 3000, he also rapidly advanced to becoming one of the most booked German House DJ’s. He later became resident DJ at the clubs Flokati (Munich) and Sternradio (Berlin), playing gigs from Moscow to Barcelona, Paris to London. As host of Moon Harbour Label Flights at the Distillery, Matthias has renowned international DJ’s to play, with the likes of Jackmate, Steve Bug, Jesper Dahlbäck and many more playing so far.

It is not only music that plays an important role in Matthias Tanzmann’s life. In Weimar he studied media design at Bauhaus University. This was a creative extension to his work in Gamat 3000 and his profile as a solo artist. By 2007 he had released numerous EP’s, three mix compilations and remixed tracks by Moby, Wighnomy Bros., Freestyle Man, Marlow, Terry Lee Brown Jr. and Dapayk & Padberg.

Collaboration with other artists is also very important for Matthias. Together with Steve Bug or Daniel Stefanik, he has produced various EPs, drawing inspiration from the new dynamics and sounds that the collaborative process can create.

While over the years his tracks have developed from classical Deep House with a European edge, through to Minimal House bordering on advanced Techno, groove and deepness were and still are the essential elements of Matthias Tanzmann’s music.

Florian Meindl is an Austrian DJ, producer and sound designer. In addition to numerous collaborations with international artists he is busy with writing soundtracks for movies, advertisings, producing remixes (currently for Röyksopp & Hot Chip) and has just successfully completed his BA studies at the London College of Music. He also writes articles about music production in magazines like “FutureMusic” and does music production shows for the “Berlin Mitte Institut”. Till now his productions have been released on labels such as Trapez, Stil vor Talent, Resopal, Herzblut and Kling Klong. The 17th and current release on his own label FLASH Recordings is in production; this serves as a platform for continuous development and promises many unheard sound creations from Meindl’s universe.

If you ask the 24 year old musician about the origin of his exceptional career, he will describe it as an “early identification with electronic music” which occurred in a small village in beautiful Upper Austria. He sees himself as an artist who is passing this message on to a new generation.
The collaboration with Oliver Koletzki, founder and owner of Stil vor Talent, was certainly an important milestone. Both generated trend-setting productions from which some of the current club tunes and hits emerged. Meindl’s Solo E.P. “Sputnik” is his standard release, one of the essentials of a new minimal style, as is “Blast” which has just been remixed by Format:B for the100th release on Trapez. All in all, Meindl has released more than 100 tracks in very different genres during the course of his young musical development.
After prolonged stays in London Meindl, having adopted Berlin as his home, finally made to move to Berlin in 2009. Here he found the stage for further developing his music. From his new home-base he tours the world’s top clubs, because apart from the exceptional variety of his very own musical style both in music production and composition, he is known more than anything else for his precision in creating driving and diversified DJ sets. Closely following the present development, this demanding representative of the next generation of electronic music is presently focussing on the expansion of his international work. However, Meindl still finds the time to present his original and unique sound branding to a curious party crowd which is rapidly developing into a loyal community of fans.
In addition to his continuous touring and label work he also produces a sound design in the form of audio samples under the name “Riemann Kollektion” which has already taken its place in the standards of modern musical development. When one experiences the modest authority of this sound artist in the sometimes slightly morbid and fast moving scenario of today’s club music, one can look forward to the continued development of electronic music. Florian Meindl is certainly one of the most interesting representatives of the next generation of electronic music producers.

The undisputed king of Slovenian underground electronica. If you’re not a newby in the never ending game of beatmatching and scratching, you probably know Valentino doesn’t really understand the meaning of words limit, border and purism. He is one of the founding fathers of Slovenian techno, but that has never really stopped him to throw one of his gourmet house sets. Or anything in between that he found fresh at the time. After a decade of creative symbiotic with his fellow countrymen Umek, with whom he founded and managed labels Recycled Loops and Earreistible Musick, the two discovered they’ve grown apart, shook hands and concentrated on new music ventures each on their own. After a series of big releases on labels such as Primevil, Yoshitoshi (Flying), Intec (House Soul EP), Wet Musik, Tronic (Burros Eslovenos) and Primate Kanzyani decided it is time to take a break. He spent the summer in Ibiza where he, as many other artists before him, found his new muse.
He gathered flock of fresh artists under the Jesus Loved You ensign and now leads them back to the essence of clubbing debauchery. In this honorable cause he’s heavily supported by fellow artists – who after all this years in business and hundred thousands of flown miles still consider Kanzyani one of the most passionate and fresh sounding electronic artists on the Globe.

In just a few short years, Pan-Pot —the duo comprised of Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix have become a central presence in electronic dance music’s most advanced sectors. Their rise parallels that of their home label mobilee, coming at a time when established categories are breaking down and accepted notions of “minimal” (please) are giving way to an unprecedented degree of dynamism on demanding dancefloors. Another mobilee signee, Marco Resmann, was a founding member of the group, but has since left to concentrate on his solo work.

Pan-Pot’s vinyl debut came in May 2005 with the Popy & Caste EP (mobilee002), featuring two cuts bursting with gritty, dirty funk, as though they’d scraped all the gunk from beneath the knobs of their gear, packed it into a ball and sent it rolling across the nightclub. Since then, in addition to their contribution to the Extra EP (mobilee005 plus), backing Daniel Stefanik’s anthemic banger “The Bells,” they’ve released three more EPs on mobilee (Obscenity, mobilee005; Black Lodge, mobilee012; and What Is What, mobilee023) and two on Einmaleins Musik. Their kinetic, undulating grooves have proved particularly tempting to other producers—Jesse Rose, Lee Van Dowski, Agnès, Barem and Camea have all taken (pot)shots at reworking the group’s tunes—and their own remixing skills are increasingly in demand: Pan-Pot have put their immediately recognizable spin on tracks by Misc., Anja Schneider & Sebo K, Tim Xavier, Dapayk Solo, Sweet ‘n Candy, and Damián Schwartz, among others.

The release of their debut album marks yet another milestone for the group. Appropriately titled Pan-O-Rama, the record—which has the honor of being the first artist album released on mobilee—offers a 360-degree tour of techno at its most twisted, balancing ominous atmospherics with an unusual lightness of touch, and running classic machine music through silicon’s digital wringer.

They may name themselves after a piece of gear, but Pan-Pot’s music is ultimately about moving bodies, not knobs. Both live and as DJs, Pan-Pot deliver on that promise with sets that rope together crisply minimal, coolly restrained techno and hot and heavy house. Anyone who’s ever played with an analog synthesizer knows that all those pots and dials are there to be touched; Pan-Pot reaches out and touches right back—with a love slap from the heart of the Berlin underground.

In 1990, Josh met up with a kindred spirit, fellow Philly jock, King Britt whose interests also include rap and acid jazz. Pooling their interests and blending their differences, the duo waxed E-culture’s “Tribal Confusion” for respected New York based indie label, Strictly Rhythm. The record was a surprising commercial success and established both DJs as artists to watch on the global dance music scene.

After forming Ovum Recordings as an independent label in October 1994 with partner King Britt, Josh recorded the cult classic “Liquid Summer”. He went on to release singles for a wide variety of revered European labels ranging from Belgium’s R & S to England’s XL. He also began remixing for Moby and others.

1995 was an especially good year for Josh. He scored 3 consecutive European smashes – all out of his modest 16-track bedroom studio – which unquestionably took dance music to a dizzying plateau. First came “Don’t Laugh” – recorded as Winx and issued via Nervous Records – where Josh took a minimal techno beat and looped an incessant sample of a whacko laughing his head off. It was a stroke of sheer genius. The single broke down international language barriers and eventually sold more than 500,000 units.

Invitations to spin at prestigious nightspots all over the world have been pouring in since, but as his career has progressed, he has stayed true to his roots, never selling out and always maintaining his integrity, always coming home to his beloved Philadelphia.

Laurent Bovey a.k.a. Laps was born in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. He bought his first drum kit at the age of 15 and soon put it into fairly decent use as drummer in a Punk band. Intrigued especially by Metal, Hip Hop and 70’s tunes, Laurent spent his youth surrounded by music. Eventually, his interest shifted more towards electronically generated sound. In 2003, he and his friend Gregory Poncet (a.k.a. Gregorythme) started producing together. Many jam sessions later, their live project Digitaline was formed, taking them directly into the clubs. After having played live sets on such notorious nights as “Live Sessions” at Zurich’s Dachkantine as well as on the Zurich Street Parade, they handed some of their tracks to Cadenza’s Luciano. Shortly after, they released their first EP “Rubicule” (Cadenza, 2005). An album (“Anticlockwise”) and another EP (“Honolulu”) followed suit, and the duo started playing at several bigger clubs, including Panorama Bar, Fabric, Cocoon, Space and DC10. They completed various remixes for Sushitek and Mo’s Ferry, amongst others for Michael Stravostrand and Dapayk & Padberg. Touring Europe, the US and Canada, they played at such prestigious festivals as Mutek and Movement (DEMF). Under the moniker Laps, Laurent started producing his own music in 2005, his first release being the “Jolie EP” on Smallville Records (2007), followed by the “Horko EP” on Eklo (2008). Taking his influences from pretty much all of his acoustic surroundings, Laps favours a dark, organic Techhouse sound that includes psychedelic elements. His music can be described as atmospheric club music that tends to evolve around miniscule details and deep grooves.

Here today, gone tomorrow. A phrase truly befitting the modern club scene. Because the dance hit of today can quickly become the long forgotten melody of yesterday.
The name of the artist of the moment is permanently blasted on the radio, shown TV and omnipresent in every musically related magazine, in other words, simply everywhere. One starts to wonder: Where does this guy come from? How come I haven`t heard of him before? And first and foremost: Does he even know how to spin a record? All justified inquests, because this so called breakthrough artist must have somewhat of a past, you might suppose. But these Johnny-come-lately frequently can`t differentiate a record from a pizza funghi and their DJ-sets are consequently not really an eye- or ear-opener. The aftereffect: The crowd is disappointed by the self-proclaimed rising star. Expectations and reality don`t correspond one bit.
Then again there are DJs that started playing records way before they set foot in a studio. Handicraftsmen that build their entire career on their unique ability to electrify an audience with their skills behind the turntables. This road is surely longer and harder, but at the same time guarantees a lifelong loyal fan base centered around you.
Peter Cornely aka Karotte, born 1969 in Saarbrücken, is a prime example for such a phenomenon. Over the last two decades the German entertainer has worked himself to the top. Not necessarily as a producer, but as a worldwide revered DJ. Achieving this distinguished position by purely giving 100% each and every night at clubs all around the globe. His unparalleled blend of electronic music surely already separates him from the rest of the field, but his ability to motivate himself to go to the absolute limit all the time, exemplifies his standing as a truly outstanding DJ. His love for music can clearly be heard and seen, no other turntable-wizard lives his set the way Karotte does. His gigs are not just a better option for a wild night out in town, each set is special and an experience in itself. Residencies at numerous discos attest his one-of-a-kind status and value to the electronic scene. U60311 Frankfurt, Stammheim Kassel, Harry Klein Munich and nowadays Cocoon Club Frankfurt are just a few examples of this illustrious list of top notch hot spots. If you would ask one the regular guests of each and every nightery Mr.Cornely has graced throughout his career, which DJ honestly shaped the sound of club, the answer would probably always be the same: Karotte. His open approach to all electronic genres (Minimal, Tech/House, Electro, Breakbeat…) have made him unpredictable and extremely influential to many young musicians out there. But clubs are not the only place where the root vegetable of all DJs can be heard. The radio-show “Karottes Kitchen” on Sunshine Live is more than just your typical “guy playing records all night long” show. Peter invites other befriended colleagues on air and together they discuss groundbreaking issues such as birds, cars and the latest local gossip. His charm and personality are what make the program special and entertaining, it is not just about the music but also about the people who stop by for a short or sometimes longer chit-chat.
Enough of the DJ Karotte, let us talk about the producer Karotte. Over the last few years the Cocoon resident has put the finishing touches on his recent tracks. The renowned artist Gregor Tresher is his latest studio partner. Together they have released “Tronic” and “Storytelling” on Great Stuff Records. Both numbers getting massive support from internationally acclaimed disc jockeys: James Zabiela, Toni Rios, Paul Woolford, Mason, Monika Kruse, Darren Emerson…are all huge fans of their latest output. Peter`s unequalled taste in music clearly reflects in his first Great Stuff 12inch. Eschewing from all contemporary trends and styles, Karottte manages to fill the void between Tech/House, Trance and Acid. But being the workaholic that he is, the long haired mix-master already has the next killer LP up his sleeve. Concurrently to the enormous Mayday this year (of course he is on the bill!), Mr.Cornely is about to unleash his new record. Later in the summer we can even expect a CD mix-series, which will reflect his temporary taste in music.
Here today, here tomorrow, a phrase which perfectly mirrors Karotte`s past, present and future. Event if Peter Cornely should land a number one hit in the dance charts, you would still have to admit that he is a better DJ than the rest of the pack. The prior expectations are surpassed and reality slowly sinks in: Damn, this guy is good!

It’s been 10 years since Mike Shannon started making a name for himself on the international techno scene as a DJ, producer and label owner. Now, having relocated to Berlin from Valencia via Montreal in 2007 he’s about to crown his first decade of active service with Memory Tree, his third full length to date, and his debut for another notable Canadian export – Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 Records. Over the years, Mike has well proven that it’s not just his music that makes him such a valuable asset to the techno community, it’s his total dedication to the cause. Whether finding him standing behind a record shop counter or searching out new talent for his labels, it’s always been about bringing people together and investing in the future of the scene.

Mike first got the vinyl bug at the tender age of 12, buying house and techno tunes at Play de Record in Toronto and by 15 his turntable skills were already landing him gigs at local underground parties and clubs. From then on, Mike’s musical world expanded rapidly thanks in no small part to Detroit’s influential WJLB radio station which turned him on to U.R., Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson – influences that still play a big role in his approach to music today. To satisfy his appetite for all things Techno, he was soon managing the orders at Speed Records in his hometown of Kitchener, Ontario where he continued his education; importing cutting edge sounds from across Europe.

Throughout that time, Mike was out DJing and clubbing from Detroit to Toronto, making connections and building up a solid network of producers and artists, which led to the inevitable formation of his own label Cynosure in 1999. A couple of years later, he teamed up with Jeff Milligan on the more experimental Revolver Canada imprint. Both labels have since developed into highly respected and trusted sources, subsequently raising the profile of Canada’s electronic music scene by providing then unknown producers such as Akufen and Deadbeat an international platform to spread their distinctive sound throughout the world. Beyond developing homegrown talent, both imprints continue to invite an inspired selection of international artists including Pier Bucci, Monolake and Brett Johnson to name a few.

For Mike it’s always been a question of choosing uncompromising artists who possess a unique and original voice – an attitude that also defines his own work whether recording as John Shananigans, The Sunaj Assassins or under his own name. There’s a distinctive feel to his music that’s both dark and soulful, that stays true to his roots while embracing the future and never fails to deliver a flurry of kick-ass, funk infected beats easily proven by a volley of timeless singles over the years and his two previous full lengths. Take 2001’s Slight of Hand on Force Inc – an album that cemented his reputation as an up-and-coming Minimal Techno producer and 2005’s Possible Conclusions to Stories That Never End – a collection of chilled-out Electronica inspired by his musical odyssey through out Chile in 2003.

Mike’s recent move to Berlin represents the fulfillment of another chapter in his musical career and with so many influential Canadian producers having taken up residence in the German capital over the last few years, it’s a chance to hook up with old friends again and start collaborating on new plans and ideas, just like the old days. Then of course there’s the new album, the accompanying remix projects and the immediate matter of fatherhood to make 2008 something of a milestone both professionally and personally.
