Poker Flat recently celebrated its 20 year anniversary, and have marked the occasion via a host of remix packages, featuring new interpretations of some of the label’s most pivotal moments.
Steve Bug & Cle’s ‘Behind the Curtains’ is undoubtedly one such track. A bonafide deep house classic, it’s remixed here by South American producer Guti, who pays homage to the original in distinctive fashion. Tackling a classic is no mean feat, but Guti does so with a modern twist that’s in keeping with their respective penchant for quality. Switching thing up and providing us with a neat alternate take, he maintains the original’s deceptive simplicity but injects it with atmospheric pads and ground-shaking beats.
Canadian producer Greg Gow, (one of his country’s most prolific artists of recent years) maintains a similar approach, as he tackles Bug & Cle’s ‘Seven Hills’. Providing a rhythmic perspective on this old-school cut, it’s the sort of track that’s sure to – one day – have dancefloors erupting in unison.
Both Guti and Gow have been in the game for a very long time and their production mastery comes across throughout here. Credit too to Poker Flat for 20 years in the game, which aptly demonstrates their own longevity.
